Dr. Brandt (Dr. Jim) began his active chiropractic practice in 1970 in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. He graduated from De Smet Public High School, De Smet, South Dakota, and received his pre-chiropractic training from Huron College, Huron, South Dakota. His Doctor of Chiropractic education was completed in 1969 from Northwestern College of Chiropractic in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He obtained a Diplomate in chiropractic orthopedics in 1980. This included postgraduate study and passing the written and oral Chiropractic Orthopedic Board examination. He has lectured locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally on various chiropractic orthopedic subjects. In addition, Dr. Brandt has written and published several articles on related topics. He is a Fellow and President of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists.

Dr. Brandt received his Master’s degree in Professional Studies (MS) centered on biomechanical trauma from Lynn University in 1994. He has lectured to undergraduate and postgraduate students at Northwestern Health Sciences University in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Dr. Brandt was an Editorial Review Board member of the peer-reviewed, indexed, and open-access Journal of the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists (JACO). He has worked extensively with the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists’ Diplomate Examination Board. He is an Examiner Emeritus to this Board. The Examiner Emeritus award has been given to only 3 other chiropractic orthopedists in addition to Dr. Brandt since the Boards inception in the 1960s. From 2019 to the present, he has been the Executive Director of the International Academy of Neuromusculoskeletal Medicine. The organization provides board certification and advanced learning to doctors of chiropractic worldwide.

He is a Paul Harris Benefactor of Rotary International. He has twice been President of the Coon Rapids Rotary club with a 30-year perfect attendance record. He has also been active in other community activities, including being a past Board member of the Anoka-Ramsey Community College Foundation Board and currently a Board member of the Coon Rapids Crime Prevention Association.

Dr. Brandt has received the Distinguished Service Award of the American College of Chiropractic Orthopedists 1986, Lifetime Service Award, American College of Chiropractic Orthopedists 2008, Presidential Award, Council on Chiropractic Orthopedics of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) 2008, and the Distinguished Fellow Award, Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedist 2008. In addition, he has been selected by his peers in 2015 and 2016 in Minnesota’s top 100 “Best Chiropractors” by Minnesota Monthly Magazine.

Dr. Brandt has been married since 1968 with two grown children and 5 grandchildren. He is an avid fly fisherman, photographer, hunter, and Grandpa.

Dr. Jim retired from active practice on January 19, 2017. Precisely 47 years to the day he began in Coon Rapids. He remains a consultant to the practice and profession. Dr. Brandt is grateful for all the patients he has had the privilege of providing care and friendship. He misses the time spent with his patients.
